Privacy Policy

Last updated: Apr 29, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how CompassDrift (the “Site”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) handles your personal information. This applies when you visit our site, join a retreat, or use our daily practices. We believe in being grounded and real, and that includes how we treat your data.

Participation and Liability

CompassDrift is built around real experiences in nature and movement.

  • Personal Responsibility: Participation in any trip, retreat, motorbike journey, or local activity is at your own interest and risk.
  • Nature of Activities: Real-world experiences—especially those involving movement and exploration—carry inherent risks.
  • Liability: CompassDrift is not liable for accidents, injuries, or losses that occur during these activities.
  • Mindfulness: We encourage everyone to move mindfully and stay within their own limits.

Information We Collect

Interaction and Community

When you leave a comment, we collect the data shown in the form, your IP address, and your browser’s user agent string to help us keep the space free of spam.

  • Gravatar: We may provide an anonymized string (a hash) created from your email to the Gravatar service to see if you use it. Their privacy policy is available here. Once approved, your profile picture is visible to the public alongside your comment.
  • Brand Channels: By sharing comments or media, you agree that this content, including your profile picture, may be used across our other brand channels, social media, or marketplaces to share real experiences with our community.

Media

If you upload images to the website, please avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download and extract that location data from images on the site.

Cookies

We use cookies to make your experience feel more natural:

  • Convenience: If you leave a comment, you can opt-in to saving your name and email in cookies so you don’t have to fill them in again. These last for one year.
  • Login: Temporary cookies check if your browser accepts them; these are discarded when you close your browser.
  • Preferences: Login cookies last for two days, and screen choice cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login persists for two weeks.
  • Editing: If you edit or publish an article, a cookie is saved to indicate the post ID. It expires after 1 day.

Third-Party and Embedded Content

Our pages may include embedded content, such as videos, images, or music playlists.

  • Behavior: Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you visited that website directly.
  • Data: These sites may collect data about you, use their own cookies, and monitor your interaction with that content, especially if you are logged into their service.

Data Retention and Your Rights

How Long We Keep Data

  • Comments: Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically.
  • User Profiles: For registered users, we store the personal information provided in your profile. You can see, edit, or delete your information at any time, though you cannot change your username.

Your Rights

If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you. You can also request that we erase your personal data.

  • Exceptions: This does not include data we are required to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
  • Security: If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
